Kids are hard on shoes

If you have ever been to the sale, you will know we store all the shoes in big laundry baskets, and there are TONS of shoes. That is why we have to put a limit on how many you can sell per gender-it’s a space issue.
We are very picky about what shoes we will accept at the sale because of this. We want your good condition shoes, NOT your ‘these would be great play shoes’.
Kids are hard on shoes. If you look at them and think they have lived a good life and are scuffed up, missing half of the sparkles that were on them, are dirty or stinky, please don’t waste your time tagging them. They will not be accepted at check in. Kids feet are all different sizes so we will accept any size KIDS shoes. That doesn’t mean you may bring your adult shoes you don’t want (exceptions for brands like Converse, Vans, Jordans…).

BEST PRACTICES

Gather up all outgrown shoes and check them for loose soles, too much wear, and general grossness. Find something else to do with the worn out, too well loved shoes…something that isn’t MMM.

Once you have your GOOD piles of shoes, now you can examine them closer. Grab some Clorox wipes and a Magic Eraser and give them a little scrub. This will make the difference in your shoes selling or not.

Scrub up the soles and make them look a little more fresh and clean and it will shock you how much better they look. Crocs are a great example of shoes that take so little effort to wipe down and will sell much better without dirt all over them.

When shopping at MMM, a lot of our long time shoppers run straight to the back of the building and start shopping at the shoes because they know how their kids are with their shoes.

So, yes! We are super picky on the shoes. If you are shopping and you see a pair that you think should have been rejected, please bring them to us.

These Sketchers sparkly unicorn shoes have lost a little too much of their shine to be accepted. Who knows what they could have been if they were cleaned up a bit.

Magic Erasers and bleach water are your friends when it comes to preparing shoes. I usually pull the laces and put them in a ziploc bag that has water and a touch of bleach in it. The laces usually come out super white.

The soles are pulling away from the shoes. I mean, come on! LOOK at what you are tagging! These are really not even good play shoes considering the kid’s feet will get wet and dirty in these shoes.

We ALWAYS have shoes that lose their tags. Always. It’s because they are in the baskets, I know. But, until we either come up with more space or another solution, this is what we deal with every sale.

Consider attaching a piece of painters tape on the inside of each shoe with the following information:

C: Your consignor number, P: Price, I: Item number

PLEASE WRITE GOOD DESCRIPTIONS

I’m almost ready to start banning consignors who have items that just say “shoes” or “shirt” or “dress”. We WANT to sell your items. Like, that’s why we are doing all of this, right? If you cannot take to the time to put a decent description, maybe our event isn’t right for you.

It’s so frustrating when someone brings up an item that they really, really, really want to buy and I can’t sell it because I don’t know who gets the credit.

This is close to the actual face I make when I see items with these kinds of descriptions. No bueno. But, I know you are going to do this to me this time, right?!
